Jayne Adams was called to the Bar in 1982.
She has extensive experience in personal injury, clinical negligence, disease and fraudulent claims litigation, travelling throughout England and Wales.
Disease
Throughout her career she has had extensive experience in all aspects of industrial disease, covering Noise Induced Hearing Loss, Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome, Work Related Upper Limb Disorder, stress at work, industrial and work related asthma, all aspects of chemical poisoning, bladder cancer, wood dust, silicosis and other lung diseases particularly asbestos related disease.
Jayne has covered preliminary issues, including limitation, and regularly appears in front of the Senior Master for disease litigation whether for CMC, Show Cause procedures or other individual aspects.
She deals with breach of duty, medical causation and quantum at Courts throughout England and Wales, predominantly at multi track level, at both first instance and appellate courts. She also deals with Part 20 proceedings and insurance related disputes.
Jayne also regularly undertakes very high value JSM’s in all aspects of disease, but particularly mesothelioma claims involving high earners and company directors. She is experienced, in this context, in dealing with accountancy and projected profit issues.

Personal Injury
Jayne has specialised in all areas of personal injury litigation throughout her career.
She acts for Claimants and Defendants in all aspects of Injury (including industrial, domestic, construction, motor, product liability, education and Occupiers Liability) and Fatal Accident Act claims.
She has had extensive experience of spinal related conditions and all types of physical injury. She deals with major head injury and psychiatric/psychological type conditions, as well as complex regional pain conditions, somatoform disorder and post traumatic stress type conditions. She is also experienced in claims involving children and vulnerable adults.
Recent cases have included all of the above, and settlement of a head injured minor case for £4.5 million.
Clinical Negligence
Jayne has extensive experience in clinical negligence and has represented and advised Claimants in actions against NHS Hospital Trusts, GPs and individual Consultants working in the private sector. Recent cases have included death following gastric band surgery in relation to a young mother and gynaecological and urinary injury during surgery.
She has also acted for NHS Trusts and Individual Practitioners in defence of claims and represented both potential Defendants and families at Inquests arising out of medical errors.
Jayne was, for 10 years, Chaiman of the Care Ethics Committee (fertility and surrogacy treatment) and a member of a Local Pharmaceutical and Medical Research Ethics Committee.
Fraudulent Claims
She has been instructed throughout her career in relation to fraudulent, malingering and exaggerated claims on behalf of insurers and individual companies.
She has had considerable success both in defending claims when the accident itself is suspect as well as in establishing a very reduced value to claims often pleaded in excess of £1 million. There is a considerable overlap between this work and the personal injury work above.
Regulatory
Jayne has significant experience of defending health and safety prosecutions.
She has represented corporate clients prosecuted for work-related deaths and serious injury both in relation to prosecution and at Inquest.
Group Litigation
She was Junior Counsel on the Leicestershire, Bryn Alyn and North Wales abuse in Care litigation, having experience of many hundreds of cases for the Claimant’s, dealing with limitation, liability, medical causation and quantum.
Lecturing
Jayne is frequently invited to provide lectures in all of the areas above, but particularly in the industrial disease field to both solicitor and insurer clients.
