Rochelle Rong was called to the Bar in 2005.
She obtained a Very Competent on the Bar Vocational Course at Nottingham Law School. After successfully completing pupillage at Ropewalk Chambers, she became a tenant in 2006.
Rochelle was educated in China, Singapore and England. She has travelled extensively and speaks fluent Chinese (Mandarin).
Rochelle has a general civil law practice with particular interest in personal injury, business and property, costs and fraudulent claims.
Personal Injury
Rochelle has extensive experience in representing both Claimants and Defendants in all aspects of personal injury law including road traffic accidents, industrial and workplace injuries and highways claims.
She is often instructed by local authorities in respect of highways claims, employers’ liability claims and occupier’s liability claims. She has experience in dealing with claims involving catastrophic and fatal injuries and representing clients at joint settlement meetings.
Apart from representing clients at interim hearings and trials, Rochelle also has a busy paperwork practice advising clients on issues of liability and quantum.
She has also been instructed to attend coroner’s inquests, CICA appeals and CRU appeals.
She is happy to accept instructions on the basis of a conditional fee agreement.
Clinical Negligence
Rochelle has some experience in clinical negligence matters and is keen to develop this area of her practice.
Disease
Rochelle has experience in advising and acting on behalf of both Claimants and Defendants in occupational disease claims.
Fraudulent Claims
Rochelle has extensive experience in the field of fraudulent claims. She has represented both claimants and defendants in the context of road traffic accidents, workplace injuries and highways claims where fraud is alleged. In relation to road traffic accidents, she is experienced in dealing with low velocity claims, exaggerated and fabricated claims.
Apart from appearing in Fast Track and Multi-Track fraud trials, Rochelle is often instructed to represent clients at interim hearings including applications to set aside default judgment, for permission to rely upon expert evidence and for relief from sanction. She is also happy to test the evidence of key witnesses in conference and assess the merits of the client’s case before trial.
Costs
Rochelle has represented both Claimants and Defendants in detailed assessment proceedings. She has experience in dealing with issues such as the recoverability of additional liability under Conditional Fee Agreements, the validity of compromise agreements and the effect of Part 36 offers.
Rochelle is particularly interested to develop this area of her practice.
Business and Property
Rochelle is frequently instructed in all aspects of business and property matters.
She has experience in advising and representing clients in all forms of real property disputes including easements, trusts of land and boundary disputes. She has represented both claimants and defendants in the High Court in cases involving equitable interests in land.
She also has a busy housing practice, representing landlords (including local authorities) and tenants in possession proceedings. She has a particular interest in cases involving public law defences and allegations of discrimination under the provisions of the Equality Act 2010.
Rochelle deals with all types of contractual disputes. She is experienced in advising in sale of goods cases and cases involving the Consumer Credit Act 1974. She has represented both individuals and companies in a variety of commercial litigation.
Rochelle is experienced in probate matters. She is often instructed in claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975. She has also appeared in the Court of Protection in respect of the appointment of a Property and Affairs Deputy.
Employment
Rochelle has experience in cases of unfair dismissal, discrimination (including sex, race, age and disability discrimination) and unlawful deduction of wages.
She has represented Claimants and Respondents at Case Management Discussions, Pre-Hearing Reviews and final hearings in the Employment Tribunals.
She has also represented a local authority respondent in an application where she obtained a substantial costs order against the claimant.
