Members of Chambers adhere to the “cab rank rule”, which imposes upon barristers the obligation to accept instructions from anyone who wishes to engage their services in an area of law in which they practise.
On the Claimant side, we regularly work for most major unions and on behalf of individuals, through private or public funding, legal expenses insurers and under conditional fee agreements.
On the Defendant side, we have long-standing relationships with the majority of insurers in the UK. We are one of a very small number of Chambers nationwide that is on the Zurich panel to cover all lines of their business. We are also a panel Chambers for the Motor Insurers Bureau. We regularly defend private clients, those that are self-insured, local and police authorities, the Treasury, the MDU and the NHSLA.
For commercial work, our clientele ranges from individuals, partnerships and small businesses to multi-national corporations.
Increasingly, instructions are received from clients under the Bar Standards Board’s Licensed Access Scheme. This is a licensing system whereby organisations or individuals who are suitable to instruct barristers because they have expertise in particular areas of the law can apply to the Bar Council to be licensed to instruct barristers directly in those areas.
As a Chambers in the East Midlands we are ideally situated as a nationwide provider of legal services. As such, we do not routinely charge travelling time for conferences or hearings.
