Local Government

Members of the group offer advice and representation in respect of matters of relevance to Local Government.  Apart from specialist advocacy, our regular work for local authorities and other public bodies includes advising, drafting and regulatory work across the whole field of their responsibilities under statute and common law.

This work includes the law of markets and fairs; licensing; human rights; village greens; education; community care; planning; and regulatory prosecutions.

Our experience also includes all aspects of the law relating to highways; Judicial Review; Education Act appeals; statutory nuisance; and public health.

We regularly represent clients in all aspects of housing law including rights to buy, disrepair, unlawful eviction, statutory nuisance, caravan sites and the regime of licensing pursuant to the Housing Act 2004.

We have particular expertise in anti-social behaviour and homelessness matters, including those concerning the interests of the travelling community.  We regularly undertake ASBO hearings (in both the Magistrates’ and County Courts), possession and injunctive proceedings and related Judicial Review.

We are a panel Chambers for several local authority consortia and individual bodies.  We understand the funding restraints that publicly funded work entails and adopt a flexible approach to fees in this regard.
