Tom Carter’s Court of Appeal Case Identified as one of the 6 Most Important Procedural Cases in 2018
4th Apr 2019
In the foreword to the 2019 edition of the White Book, the Rt. Hon. Sir Geoffrey Vos has identified the six most important procedural cases from the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court in 2018.
Tom Carter acted in the Court of Appeal in one of the cases listed, namely Williams -v- Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy EWCA Civ 852; 4 WLR 147. The case was highlighted by the Rt. Hon. Sir Geoffrey Vos as being not only an important decision on fixed costs but also being the first decision to articulate the role of the Civil Procedure Rules Committee when considering rules of court. This is likely to be important in future cases where there are arguments about new or amended rules in the CPR.
