Kam specialises principally in disease, all aspects of personal injury (including catastrophic injury) clinical negligence and insurance work.
He has been recognised as a leading junior by the Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners for a number of consecutive years,.
He regularly appears in the County and High Courts and has also appeared in the Court of Appeal. In addition, he has acted as an Examiner of the Court (on appointment by the Senior Master).
Interests away from the Bar include rugby, football, squash, skiing and pool.
Kam is a specialist practitioner in industrial disease cases and has been routinely recognised as a leading junior in this field by published guides to the legal profession.
He is familiar with all categories and types of industrial disease related work, including but not limited to asbestos-related injury, noise induced hearing loss / tinnitus, hand-arm vibration syndrome, dermatitis, respiratory disease, work related upper limb disorders and stress related injury.
Kam has conducted disease trials at Courts throughout England and Wales. In addition, he regularly undertakes CMC and Show Cause hearings before the Masters.
Since his appointment to the Attorney General’s Panel of Counsel in 2010, he has acted extensively for the steel, rail and ship-building industries in relation to Asbestos, NIHL and HAVS.
He has particular expertise in limitation issues.
Kam acts for both Claimants and Defendants in all aspects of higher value personal injury work, including employers’, occupiers’ and public liability claims, claims by pupils against LEA’s, vicarious liability cases, defective premises and construction site accidents.
In addition, he has specialist knowledge of limitation in personal injury cases.
Kam has acted in cases involving serious or catastrophic injuries, both on his own and with Leading Counsel.
He has undertaken numerous joint settlement meetings and mediations and his experience of high value work includes brain injuries, spinal injuries (including paralysis) and amputees.
Kam also has considerable experience of drafting schedules and counter-schedules in high value cases.
Kam has acted for both Claimants and Defendants in claims involving trust and private hospitals, consultants, nurses, dentists and general practitioners.
Recent work includes claims arising from alleged delay in diagnosis, misdiagnosis or negligent care and treatment, involving complex issues of breach and causation.
Kam has a keen interest in insurance contracts and is regularly instructed to advise and represent insurers and policy holders in coverage disputes.
His experience covers the entire range of insurance and reinsurance disputes including product liability, professional liability, property damage, construction, EL/PL and fraud.
Kam has considerable inquest experience and has acted for families and other properly interested persons including the MOJ, MOD, NHS, MDU and various PCT’s.
Kam is regularly instructed by the Government Legal Department in lengthy jury inquests and has experience of deaths caused by suicide (including deaths in custody) industrial disease, misadventure, natural causes, road traffic collisions and unlawful killing.
Kam is a keen sportsman and played rugby at a high level for many years. He is increasingly instructed in injury claims arising from professional and amateur sports. He is familiar with regulatory and compliance aspects and has a particular interest in sports concussion injuries
