Nikhil Arora

Call: 2011

Nikhil completed his undergraduate degree in Law and French Law at The Queen’s College, Oxford and the University of Paris – Panthéon Assas. After the BPTC he undertook a Master of Laws LL.M in Medical Law at King’s College London, where his research essay was on the direct liability of institutions for medical negligence.

During pupillage, Nikhil undertook a wide range of work on both the Small Claims and Fast Tracks, as well as applications in larger matters on the Multi Track. He prepared statements of claim, advices and skeleton arguments for his supervisors in all areas of Chambers’ work, and he intends to develop a broad-based civil practice.

Away from the Bar, Nikhil enjoys skiing, travel and SCUBA diving.

Personal Injury

Nikhil practises primarily in personal injury law. He appears in Fast and Multi Track matters and acts across the range of personal injury-related claims.

He acts for both Claimants and Defendants, and is happy to act on a conditional fee basis where appropriate.

Commercial Dispute Resolution

Nikhil has appeared in the County Court in several trials in the commercial sphere, particularly in the construction field. He has also advised in relation to such cases, and welcomes the opportunity to be involved from an early stage, guiding the direction of the case.

Additionally, Nikhil has recently been involved in insolvency matters, and finds this a very interesting field in which to practise.

Credit Hire

A large part of Nikhil’s practice has a credit hire element, whether for Claimants or Defendants. He is well-versed in the law on this area, and has appeared at all levels of the County Court to argue it. In addition, he has advised on appeals from first-instance decisions.

Having studied Labour Law at both Oxford and Paris, Nikhil was keen to put this academic knowledge to effective use. As a result, before commencing pupillage, he volunteered at the Free Representation Unit, taking on over a dozen cases, ranging from one-day unfair dismissal claims, through to multi-day discrimination trials.

Clinical Negligence

Clinical negligence is an area in which Nikhil intends to develop a large part of his practice. He completed his Master’s Degree in medical law, and has already been able to put this to good effect, advising and drafting in Multi Track clinical negligence work in his own right, in addition to the experience he gained in pupillage.

Costs & Litigation Funding

Nikhil has attended numerous Costs Case Management Conferences, for both Claimants and Defendants, as well as Detailed Assessments. He is keen to pursue this area of practice further, and is acutely aware of its importance in civil litigation.

Nikhil has appeared on numerous occasions in housing matters in the County Court, both for Local Authorities and private landlords, and is keen to further this area of practice.
