Stuart Brady

Stuart has a busy civil common law practice spanning personal injury, disease, clinical negligence, employment, professional discipline, housing, homelessness and general civil common-law work. This work sees him draft documents for, and appear in, proceedings that span a range of tribunals from the Coroner’s Court through to the High Court.

Stuart is authorised to undertake direct access work and can therefore receive instructions directly from members of the public.

Stuart has significant professional experience gained before joining the Bar from his time in public policy at the European Parliament, the Confederation of British Industry, and Energy UK, and as a player at Saracens Rugby Club.

Professional Discipline & Regulation

Stuart has appeared in numerous multi-day fitness to practice hearings before regulatory tribunals, and has achieved a number of very significant, often career-saving, successes for his clients. He has experience of acting in National College of Teaching and Learning proceedings, and in proceedings in the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service.

He has experience of appearing in the High Court in such matters.

Stuart is happy to act on a direct access basis in such matters where appropriate.


Stuart has appeared in a number of multi-day final hearings in the Employment Tribunal. His experience covers unfair dismissal, discrimination, reasonable adjustments, victimisation and related claims under the Equality Act 2010. He has secured a number of favourable findings for his clients: for example, a finding of failure to make reasonable adjustments after a seven day trial.

He has also acted in breach of contract matters in the County Court, and in a wrongful dismissal matter before an arbitrator.

Stuart is happy to act on a direct access basis in such matters where appropriate.


Stuart has appeared and drafted documents in a number of housing and homelessness matters. For example, he has been involved in several successful appeals in homelessness matters.

Stuart is experienced in acting in possession proceedings for both landlords and tenants.

In appropriate cases Stuart will consider working on a direct access basis.

Personal Injury

Stuart appears, advises and drafts pleadings across all types of personal injury claims both on the Fast Track and Multi-Track. This includes employers’ liability, public liability, highways, defective premises and road traffic matters.

Stuart regularly appears at trials, costs and case management conferences, and inquest hearings.


Stuart has appeared, advised and drafted pleadings in numerous road traffic matters. He is happy to act in such matters on the Fast Track or Multi Track.

Credit Hire

Stuart has ample experience of credit hire claims on both the Claimant and Defendant side and enjoys engaging with the law in this area.

Clinical Negligence

Stuart has acted in a number of clinical negligence claims, and is happy to advise, draft proceedings or appear in such matters. He has appeared at inquests related to possible medical negligence, and has advised and drafted pleadings in a number of clinical negligence matters.



Stuart works across a range of disease claims. He has particular experience in noise-induced hearing loss claims, and regularly advises, drafts pleadings and appears in such claims.

Stuart has also acted in hand-arm vibration syndrome and mesothelioma claims.


Stuart has appeared at several inquests involving road traffic deaths, care homes, and clinical settings. He has appeared for families, insurers, and institutions.

Stuart is keen to expand his Coronial practice.

Civil Common Law Work

Stuart’s general civil common law work has seen him advise and appear in credit-hire, debt, breach of contract, misrepresentation, unlawful interference with goods, insolvency, and consumer disputes.

In appropriate cases Stuart will consider working on a direct access basis.

Costs & Litigation Funding

Stuart often appears in costs and case management conferences (CCMC’s) and at detailed assessment hearings.

Stuart led the Nottinghamshire Law Society Working Group on the Jackson fixed costs reforms.
